Tips
Never leave tools out in the rain or all winter. Wood handles rot. Steel blades and shovels rust. Keep tools sharp before putting away. Oil pruners and shears to keep them working. Buy the best you can afford. If your budget is not able to get all new, look for some at yard sales or flea markets and second hand stores. Invest in a hat for sun protection.
1. Short handle trowel:for planting seedlings, weeding, transplanting, or planting pots and bulbs.
2. Leaf rake: use to clean up the lawn in spring or fall time.
3. Gloves: Buy cotton gloves for general duties and a pair of rubber for wet weather. If you have to prune roses you might want heavy leather ones.
4. Long handle shovel: use for digging plants out, division of large perennials or spreading compost and manure.
5. Pruning shears: Bypass or anvil shears are a versatile tool for trimming. For large branches or pruning shrubs use long handle Lopper.
6. Garden hose: A must for watering both lawn and garden.
7. Lawn mower for those who must care for a good size patch of grass. Push mowers work fine for small lawns or pathways.
